Salary: $82,400 – $92,700

Responsibilities & Duties

The senior marketing manager (senior manager) will be responsible for all marketing activities in support of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. This includes overseeing the creation, planning and execution of a marketing strategy for the brand, including evolving and maintaining the visual identity, managing paid campaigns, and supporting all digital properties.  

The senior manager will work collaboratively across the organization, ensuring tactics, content development and planning efforts are aligned between units and in service of CDP’s strategic goals.  

As a fully remote workforce, CDP prioritizes employee engagement and relationship building in service of a collaborative culture rooted in equity. To this end, in-person team retreats are scheduled throughout the year in different regions of the U.S. This role will be expected to attend 2-3 retreats per year, which average 3-5 days of travel.

Primary responsibilities include:

Grow marketing strategy and analytics function 

  • In collaboration with the VP of brand and storytelling, develop and grow a marketing strategy for CDP that supports the organization’s strategic plan and integrates with the broader marketing and communications strategy for CDP. 
  • Identify, determine and prioritize key opportunities for the brand to grow awareness and engagement among key audiences (ex. Event sponsorships, ad opportunities, sponsored content, etc.).
  • Implement and own marketing strategy to include paid opportunities, partnerships, email marketing, word of mouth, as well as new and emerging technologies.
  • Serve as a leader within the team and throughout the organization to support a broader understanding of the marketing function, advise and influence colleagues and the organization to best optimize marketing goals, and generate trust through successful collaboration.
  • Be an active listener, collaborative adviser and team player to ensure the MarComm team is best positioned to support the needs of our colleagues and the organization. 

Evolve the brand’s visual identity 

  • Assess current visual identity and develop parameters for use to ensure that the organization adheres to consistent brand standards.
  • Determine cadence and criteria to review and evolve the visual identity of the brand to ensure it meets the organization’s needs. 
  • Maintain and update a library of designed templates and branded resources for the organization. 
  • Ensure all digital platforms adhere to brand standards.

Develop a library of visual assets 

  • Organize a library of photos and videos developed by and shared with the organization. 
  • Determine and make recommendations for platform needs to better use existing technology or integrate a new system.
  • Create, document and maintain a system for organizing usage rights of assets shared with the organization. 
  • Select photos and videos for use on the website and social media channels as well as in marketing materials.

Supervisory duties

  • Supervise the social media manager to ensure that social media content and calendar align with brand identity and broader marketing goals and campaigns. 
  • Set clear goals, monitor progress and provide regular feedback to team members.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to help inform performance goals and support the professional development of the social media manager.

Other duties as assigned

  • Serve on committees, panels and task forces at CDP as appropriate and as available.
  • Remain knowledgeable about the priorities of the organization and the MarComm team, the strategic plan, and the field of disaster philanthropy.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization.
  • Perform other duties and job-related tasks that may be assigned.

This position reports to the vice president of brand and storytelling and works in service of the whole organization.

Required qualifications and skills

  • >7 years of relevant, progressive experience in creating and implementing marketing and brand strategies for varied audiences.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing high-impact marketing campaigns and brand initiatives. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively persuade key decision-makers to take recommended actions.
  • Strong leadership skills with supervisory experience. 
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing, content strategy and marketing analytics.  
  • Ability to navigate complex issues and coordinate effectively with various stakeholders. 
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking with precise attention to detail and a strong sense of personal responsibility for work.
  • Experience maintaining a brand asset library. 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite apps, specifically InDesign, as well as Canva.

Preferred skills and qualifications 

  • Experience in graphic design and multimedia content creation.
  • Knowledge of Google Data Analytics. 
  • Experience with Meltwater or a comparable content management system.
  • Experience with visual asset management.
