Alex Klein

Expert Advisory Services Manager

Alex Klein serves as an expert advisory services manager at the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, where she supports philanthropic, nonprofit and public-sector partners in strengthening disaster recovery, resilience and long-term adaptation strategies. Her work focuses on helping the organization translate complex climate and disaster challenges into actionable frameworks, partnerships and implementation pathways.

Alex brings cross-sector experience spanning climate resilience, philanthropy, infrastructure and the built environment. Before joining CDP, she worked as an independent climate and urban resilience advisor, managing multi-stakeholder engagements focused on disaster mitigation, coastal resilience and adaptation planning. She has facilitated executive workshops, public convenings and strategic planning processes for municipal agencies, nonprofit organizations and philanthropic initiatives across the United States.

Previously, Alex served as associate director and research fellow at Resilient Cities Catalyst, where she contributed to resilience advisory initiatives supporting public infrastructure investment, climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction. Her work included advisory scope development, executive facilitation, grant reporting and implementation strategy across complex, multi-partner programs.

Alex holds a master of environmental design from the Yale School of Architecture, where her research examined structural barriers to climate adaptation along the American coast, and a master of arts in design from Carnegie Mellon University. Across her work, she is particularly interested in how institutions, land systems and communities adapt to changing environmental conditions over long time horizons.

Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Alex now lives in Oceanside, California with her Baja rescue dog, Katana. Outside of work, she can often be found in the ocean surfing, open-water swimming or free diving.
