Galen Winey

Galen Winey is the senior manager for resource acquisition at the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP). In this role, he supports CDP’s mission through identifying, cultivating and securing programmatic funding. He brings a wealth of hands-on experience in relationship building, proposal strategy and internal process management across the development space. 

Galen has almost a decade of fundraising experience, including over seven years at Internews where he led business development for programs strengthening independent media and bolstering access to information. Based in Washington, DC and Bogotá, Colombia, he facilitated program design processes with dozens of partner organizations from over 50 countries.  

Galen’s work with disaster-affected communities began in graduate school, when he interned with UNICEF in Jordan. In this role, he researched resource gaps faced by Syrian refugees, as well as education and information needs. 

Galen holds a master’s in international development and economics from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a bachelor’s in international affairs and political science from George Washington University. He grew up in Boulder, Colorado and currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, biking and baking.
