CDP and InterAction Form Partnership
August 12, 2013
(WASHINGTON, DC)—Today Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) and InterAction announced a formal partnership with a goal of facilitating a mutual assistance network between the private philanthropic community and the international NGO (INGO) community before, during and after disasters.
“We are joined by a common goal: to improve the relief and recovery of communities affected by disasters globally. CDP and InterAction will work together to connect donors to information about NGOs which are supporting disaster mitigation, relief and long-term recovery,” says Robert G. Ottenhoff, President and CEO, Center for Disaster Philanthropy.
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) is a 501(c)(3). CDP’s mission is to provide unique services that transform disaster philanthropy from one of reactive responses to one focused on increasing the effectiveness of donors throughout the life cycle of disasters.
InterAction is the largest alliance of U.S.-based, international relief and development non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The mission of InterAction is to eliminate extreme poverty, uphold human rights, safeguard a sustainable planet and ensure human dignity for poor and vulnerable populations by advancing the goals of the U.S.-based INGOs.
“This partnership allows our members in times of crisis to bring a concrete list of needs directly to donors who want to help,” says Joel R. Charny, Vice President, Humanitarian Policy and Practice at InterAction. “We know the strengths of the INGO community, and along with CDP we can help donors make the most strategic decisions for their disaster philanthropy dollars.”
About Us
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy
Disaster philanthropy has become an all-too-necessary practice in recent years. Yet donors still are challenged to determine how, when, and to whom to give to have the greatest impact. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy helps individual, family, corporate, and institutional donors answer the question, “How can I help?” more easily and quickly in the wake of a disaster. The Center provides a platform of learning and connection with leading disaster experts and other disaster philanthropists that brings more private money to disaster response efforts. The organization was named one of five “nonprofit highpoints of 2012” by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. For more information, please visit www.disasterphilanthropy.org
