A new look for CDP
Today, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy is excited to unveil a new logo and refreshed brand!
Although our look has changed, our mission, vision and the values that guide our work have not. Instead, it better reflects who CDP is today and where we are headed.
CDP exists to mobilize philanthropy to strengthen a community’s ability to withstand disasters and recover equitably when they occur. For 16 years, we have worked to help philanthropy better understand disasters, respond thoughtfully and invest in meaningful recovery long after immediate relief efforts end and headlines fade.
This work has rarely felt more important.
Over the past year, we have seen how dramatically the global aid and humanitarian landscapes are changing. The loss of USAID and the broader withdrawal of global aid have left significant gaps in humanitarian assistance at a time when needs remain high. Communities and organizations worldwide face fewer resources and greater uncertainty.
At the same time, climate-driven disasters continue to affect communities with increasing frequency and severity. Floods, hurricanes, wildfires, drought and extreme heat are disrupting lives and livelihoods in the U.S. and around the world.
The response to these challenges cannot focus only on what happens soon after a disaster.
Immediate relief is essential. Long-term recovery is equally important. But equitable, long-term recovery cannot be solely reactive. What we learn through recovery should shape how we prepare for what comes next. Investing in preparedness and prepositioning funds is critical to ensure that communities are better able to withstand future hazards and respond to current and future needs. This is where philanthropy can make a difference.
At CDP, we help donors and funders understand where their support can have the greatest impact. We believe disaster philanthropy should take a long-term view and recognize that recovery often takes years.
We believe that people closest to disasters are often closest to solutions.
Local organizations and community leaders understand the needs, priorities and strengths of the places where they live and work. Supporting locally led recovery means listening to communities and ensuring local leaders have the resources and flexibility to shape their own recovery. It also means connecting with and through our network of partners and peers to be flexible, innovative and thoughtful in our support.
Equity remains central to our work.
Disasters do not affect people equally. Existing inequities often shape who is most exposed to hazards, who has resources to prepare or mitigate risk and who faces the greatest barriers during recovery. Supporting equitable recovery means considering these differences and directing resources toward communities that have historically had fewer resources and less access to support.
These principles have guided CDP from the beginning, and they will continue to guide us moving forward.
Our new brand gives us a clearer and more consistent way to communicate who we are and what we do. It reflects how CDP has grown and the role we are continuing to build in disaster philanthropy.
But a brand is not just a logo or a visual system. It is also shaped by the people and relationships behind it.
We are grateful for the community that makes this work possible.
This includes our donors and philanthropic funders, who turn to CDP for guidance on how and where to give to best support recovery. It includes our nonprofit and community partners, whose work directly supports people and communities affected by disasters.
Our collective commitment matters because the challenges we face require sustained attention and investment.
Our updated brand may give CDP a new look, but our purpose has not changed. We remain committed to mobilizing philanthropy for equitable, long-term recovery and to listening to, learning from and working alongside our community of supporters, partners and peers who make that work possible.
We look forward to what we will continue to build together.
