The escalating violence in the Middle East is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with all those affected. At CDP, we’re here, ready to support your organization’s decision-making as you consider philanthropic aid to the region.

As the situation continues to evolve, our team is closely monitoring developments and connecting with organizations in the region. The operating environment for humanitarians and nonprofit organizations has grown increasingly difficult, and our conversations with organizations on the ground reaffirm the urgent need for flexible funding in this moment.

The humanitarian toll

While the ripple effects of this crisis are being felt worldwide, the escalating violence in the Middle East is creating new humanitarian needs while compounding existing dire conditions. Families and communities are facing mounting insecurity, displacement and uncertainty. Aid workers are facing severe operational constraints across the region. Airspace closures and disrupted supply chains are constraining the humanitarian response, limiting the movement of personnel and essential supplies.

A recommended path forward

We are in a unique time as international government assistance has largely withdrawn, leaving many nonprofit organizations with far fewer resources to support people in need. This latest crisis further limits their capacity to respond at the scale required. It is at this moment when private philanthropic support can make an especially meaningful difference.

Given the scale of this crisis and the many intersecting humanitarian needs across multiple countries, we are directing support to CDP’s Global Recovery Fund. As a pooled fund, it allows our team to respond across regions and sectors simultaneously, prioritizing local organizations and mobilizing resources wherever recovery needs are most urgent and funding gaps are greatest. Agility in funding, across countries and people, is critical in a crisis of this scale and complexity.
