Center for Disaster Philanthropy Awards Catholic Charities USA With $1 Million Grant to Help Communities Recover from Wildfires

One of CDP’s largest grants will support disaster response in wildfire-affected areas in California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington State

Alexandria, Va. (Feb. 11, 2021) — Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) receives $1 million from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) Disaster Recovery Fund to assist long-term recovery efforts from the recent wildfires. One of the largest that CDP has awarded a single organization, this grant will help Catholic Charities agencies meet the needs of communities across California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington State impacted by the multiple devastating wildfires in 2020.

Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, President and CEO of CCUSA said, “We are grateful to CDP for recognizing the importance of long-term disaster recovery, enabling Catholic Charities agencies to provide individuals and families with direct aid, home repair, home rebuilding, health care services and other programs that enable long term financial stability.”

CCUSA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, deploys disaster response experts to support local Catholic Charities agencies in their work providing direct assistance to affected communities and identifying long-term recovery needs.

“People and communities affected by disasters often need help assessing and accessing financial aid and other resources that could stabilize their lives and livelihoods, and begin the road to recovery,” said Brennan Banks, director of Disaster Recovery Funds at CDP. “This is why we are proud to support CCUSA’s efforts to reach communities where the needs from wildfires are greatest or the resources in some of the more rural communities are limited.”

The CDP grant is made possible by donations from the CDP Disaster Recovery Fund and support from Google.
