This year for the first time, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) will participate in Giving Tuesday on Nov. 27, 2018. For us, this international day of giving is an opportunity to raise funds and raise awareness of the need to support long-term recovery after disasters like the devastating California wildfires, Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence.
It has been a deadly 60 days in the U.S. and around the world. Never before have we experienced humanitarian crises of such frequency and intensity. This year continues to see destruction caused by strong hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis and wildfires. Seeing the images you begin to understand just how many communities are hurting . . . and how many seriously need our help. That’s where Giving Tuesday comes in.
Giving Tuesday is a day of giving fueled by you through the power of social media and your participation. Join us. Be part of the CDP Virtual Wildfire Recovery Crew! Your donation today or on Giving Tuesday will help people facing the long road to recovery after the massive wildfires. Your donation of $5, $10, $25 or more will ensure assistance continues to communities in need. Even if you’ve given in the past, your help is needed now to help survivors. Donations pour in right after a disaster strikes to help with immediate relief. This is vital. Just as vital is the need to fund the work that helps rebuild what has been lost. Recovery is a long road. Be part of the Crew that helps pave the way.
By participating in our Giving Tuesday campaign, you will be supporting the CDP California Wildfires Recovery Fund. This will focus on medium- and long-term recovery needs, including rebuilding homes and businesses; meeting the needs of young children; and supporting mental health among other needs. Can you think of a more crucial goal than rebuilding lives and communities this Thanksgiving season?
Thanks to the generous donors who have already supported our California Wildfires Recovery Fund. And thanks to you for considering a donation to CDP. We know you’ll have many choices on Giving Tuesday and we hope you will add the long-term recovery of families to your list.
