The Beginning of Hope

When a tornado hit Eureka, Kansas in June 2018, it damaged the roof of a single father of two’s home. The family dealt with a leaking roof for months, until volunteers from Mennonite Disaster Services stepped in to help. In the photo above, the crew is beginning to remove the temporary roof they had previously installed and replacing it with a new permanent roof. This is the beginning of hope for this family of three, hope that the roof will be complete and their home protected from the elements before Christmas. This project was managed and coordinated by United Way of Flint Hills.

United Way received a grant from the Midwest Early Recovery Fund to support reconstruction management and volunteer coordination in response to the Kansas tornado.
