Hurricane Fiona: Responding to disasters in island settings


Heavy rains have swept Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, leading to massive flooding, damage and destruction. Hurricane Fiona is continuing to wreak havoc throughout the Caribbean. Almost five years to the day after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, this island territory is experiencing significant power outages and has suffered losses of infrastructure, homes and businesses.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy hosted a webinar to help foundations, corporations and individual donors learn about the storm, the impact of the devastating flooding and how they can help affected communities.

Regine Webster, vice president of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and guest experts discussed the differences in island-based disaster recovery and how to best support community organizations working on the ground.
