CDP and National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) Join in Partnership

May 16, 2013: The Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s (CDP) and National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) today announced a partnership agreement during VOAD’s annual conference in Portland, Oregon.

“When disasters happen, voluntary organizations play an essential role in responding to the needs of victims” said Robert G. Ottenhoff, CDP President and CEO.  “Being partners with National VOAD gives us incredible access to the best thinking around domestic disaster response and will help inform the advice we give to donors about effective disaster philanthropy.  This relationship will also give us valuable insights into our work with donors and organizations, particularly our current strategic planning work with the Louisiana VOAD.”

“This is a natural partnership for the National VOAD community. We focus on promoting and supporting the most effective disaster preparations, response and recovery actions, and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy helps donors understand disasters, the urgent and unmet needs of survivors, and what organizations make a difference.  We are appreciative that national VOAD members will now be recognized as an effective and trusted way for the donor community to really help families and communities recover,” said Daniel Stoecker, National VOAD Executive Director.

The partnership is designed to coordinate nonprofit partnerships with private philanthropy. National VOAD will share the work of its 109 members with CDP which in turn will share the information with its community of donors. “ Donors want to know what’s happening on the ground. In a crisis it can be hard to access information in a timely manner. Developing relationships with National VOAD’s network of members across the country will help CDP identify the best opportunities for donors to make a difference,” added Regine A. Webster, CDP Vice President.
